Children move into the 2 – 3’s room when they are approximately 24 months until around the term after their third birthday. The room promotes the first steps of independence through extended sensory experiences and continuous play.
Continuous provision is accessible during the core of the day to enable children to make choices through a large selection of resources. It is usually within this room where children begin with toilet training, and if necessary individual rewards are introduced to ease what can be a very daunting experience.
Staff work very closely with parents to support each individual child. Within this room, staff encourage children as their play begins to mature and a purpose for it can be seen. The children are introduced to touch screen IT equipment and given access to it throughout the day.
Weekly dance sessions support children to be active and healthy whilst developing large motor physical skills and co-ordination. Children who still require a sleep are provided with a quiet space within the room when necessary.
